BLACK & ROSSI SELECTED AS MEMBER OF TEAM TO CONTINUE DEVELOPMENT OF INNOVATIVE ‘SENSE & RESPOND’ MAINTENANCE TECHNOLOGIES FOR DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE LIGHT ARMORED VEHICLE (LAV) PROGRAM
THE WOODLANDS, TX – January 18, 2009 — For the fourth time in six years, Black & Rossi has been selected as a key member of the team of military technology experts to develop further improvements that reduce costs and improve operational effectiveness of military vehicle maintenance and weapons systems—specifically for LAVs used by American war fighters in theatres around the world.
Known as “Sense & Respond (S&R) Logistics,” the technology approach introduces and integrates innovative initiatives that allow military maintenance personnel to assess and repair LAVs and weapons systems on the battlefield and elsewhere from remote locations, thus dramatically improving operational capability and availability. When fully implemented, the cost savings from the program are estimated to be at least $2.5 million annually along with a 10% reduction in the number of support personnel required. The potential annual savings across the Department of Defense (DoD) could exceed $2 billion.
The S&R LAV program is part of a unique collaboration between the National Center for Manufacturing Activities (NCMS), its member companies, and the DoD. By partnering with NCMS government services members, DoD maintenance managers are able to quickly assess the benefits of new manufacturing technologies in their own facilities, working side-by-side with industry leaders solving manufacturing problems through collaboration. In addition to Black & Rossi, other members of the S&R LAV team include a “Who’s Who” of military technology companies and subject matter experts including Portal Dynamics, Solidica, Raytheon, the Marine Corps Logistics Command and NSWC, Crane Indiana.
In response to the repeat selection of Black & Rossi as a team member, Colonel Bill Black, the company’s president, said, “Being selected once again is truly an honor. Black & Rossi is proud of its record of collaboration and achievement on past S&R LAV teams, and we look forward to working with our private and public sector colleagues to introduce even more innovative solutions as a member of this latest team.”
